The Town of Ashland is governed by a five-member Board of Selectmen, who are elected for staggered three-year terms. The Board of Selectmen acts as an executive, managerial and administrative body of oversight that coordinates the on-going work of all departments, boards, committees, commissions, councils, and officers, as well as other miscellaneous matters. They are assisted by the Town Manager.

The Ashland Board of Selectmen seek to build and maintain the public’s trust and understand the public’s needs by providing a friendly proactive leadership, sound financial management practices and operate a cost-effective and efficient open and engaging town government.

The Ashland Budget Committee was established by a vote of the Town Meeting in March 1936. The principal duty of the Committee, according to RSA Chapter 32, is to review the proposed budgets and the warrant articles requesting appropriations for the Town of Ashland and its utilities, and the Ashland School District. The process includes a public hearing on the Committee’s initial decisions. The Committee then recommends its own version of the annual budget and expresses its opinions on the warrant articles to the voters, who have the final say on the budget and warrant articles.

- The Budget Committee consists of five at-large citizen members, plus two ex-officio members and two alternates representing the Select Board and the School Board. The at-large members are elected by the voters, and the ex-officio members and alternates are appointed by their respective boards.

The establishment of the Ashland Economic Development Committee was formally approved by the Ashland Board of Selectmen at their April 21, 2014, meeting. “The Ashland Economic Development Committee (AEDC) was formed as a town committee so it may better assist, counsel, and advise the residents of Ashland, the Board of Selectmen, other Town Boards and Departments, and Ashland businesses, both existing and proposed, on the merits of Economic Development. AEDC members will actively engage in furthering the goals set by the citizens of Ashland as defined in the Town of Ashland Master Plan.”
Mission Statement
The Ashland Economic Development Committee’s mission is to enhance the vitality of the local economy by supporting existing business and attracting new businesses to Ashland, encouraging economic development consistent with the Ashland Master Plan, and promoting the spirit of the Town.

Housing Standards Board
The Housing Standards Board has jurisdiction to receive and act upon complaints when a dwelling is deemed to be “unfit for human habitation” by the Health Officer, the Fire Chief, or ten citizens of the Town of Ashland.
The Housing Standards Board meets as needed, after receiving a complaint forwarded to it by the Health Officer and/or the Fire Chief.
